What is Some Current Application of Fiber Optics

Fiber optics are hair like channels that allow any type of signal to travel through them at nearly light speed. The glass like fibers are not affected by storm surges or external sources of power. Fiber optics are significantly better than copper wire for transferring data, and do not have to be shielded like copper wire. Today, fiber optics are used for many purposes, and are an important part of everyday modern life.
Almost every communications system uses fiber optics as a means of transmitting data. Fiber optics allow for very fast and efficient communications along with better customer service. Forms of communication that use fiber optics include but are not limited to: internet, telephone and television cable communications. All of these industries use fiber optics to provide information at the highest speeds possible to make their service better and more convenient for consumers.
Fiber optics are used not only for their high speeds and immunity to storm surges, but also for their distance efficiency. The ability of fiber optics to provide extra distance allows for easier network set ups. Copper wire has small distance limits, meaning networks must be more complicatedly designed to allow for more transmission centers, as opposed to fiber optics which allows for simple design and fewer transmission centers. Fiber optics also provide noise resistance, good security, and amazing bandwidth. Large bandwidth allows for greater amounts of data to be transferred across a network, which in today’s electronic information driven world, is much needed.
The advantages of fiber optics are mind blowing. With an ability to greatly exceed the distance limits that copper wire provides, and a nearly unlimited bandwidth limit, fiber optics are essential in today’s world. Communications systems heavily rely on fiber optics to give them efficient data transfer and provide high speed transmission. Fiber optics are the most advanced form of communication available today, and seem to be poised to remain so for years to come.
